Why a one-to-one assumption can fail

An exact five-character match is the strongest starting point, but it is not the whole vendor check. Confirm the legal entity and location, then read SAM registration status as a separate, time-sensitive field.
Exact CAGE code vs. company-name search
Use the exact CAGE code from the quote, award, invoice or onboarding form whenever you have it. If you only know the company, search its legal name—not just a brand or product name—and treat every name result as a candidate until the address and UEI match your paperwork.
Legal entity and facility ambiguity
A CAGE code identifies a particular entity location. A parent company, subsidiary, division or another facility can appear under a different CAGE/UEI combination, even when the names look related. Do not substitute a familiar parent-company record for the entity named on the transaction.

- Re-copy all five characters and check common lookalikes such as O/0 and I/1.
- Match the legal name and physical address to the quote, award, invoice or onboarding record.
