Read the flags behind the number
What does a vendor readiness score actually tell you?
CageCheck’s 0–100 score summarizes four sets of flags in a dated vendor record. It is a CageCheck convenience score, not an official SAM.gov rating, a probability of failure, or approval to buy. Use the flagged facts to choose the next check.
76/100: two review flags, not a 24% failure risk
The BELL BOEING JOINT PROJECT OFFICE record, UEI JHFZTG8ZC9V2, showed 76/100 when reviewed October 31, 2026. Its SAM extract is dated October 5, 2026; the recorded expiration date is November 20, 2026. This explains that dated display, not the company’s current eligibility or performance.
100
Starting value
The formula starts at 100. This is not a certification or an estimate of business quality.
−12
Expiration review
The dated record’s expiration was within 60 days of the review date. This is CageCheck’s review threshold, not a government deadline.
−12
Coverage missing
Exclusions were not checked in this snapshot. That is an evidence gap, not a finding that this vendor is excluded.
100 − 12 − 12 = 76
UEI and CAGE are present, and NAICS codes are listed: no deductions for those two flags. PSC is not listed, but missing PSC alone does not lower the current score when NAICS is present. The number therefore does not certify a complete profile.
The four flag groups and their deductions
These are CageCheck’s existing scoring rules, reviewed October 31, 2026. Deductions across groups add together; the final score is bounded between 0 and 100. Within each group, one applicable state supplies its deduction.
- 1. Registration and expiration
- Active with a valid expiration more than 60 days away: 0. Active with 0–60 days left, an unavailable valid expiration, or undetermined status: −12. Expired status or a valid recorded expiration that has passed: −40. A later renewal may be absent from the extract; verify it officially.
- 2. Exclusions coverage
- An active exclusion match: −60. No active match in exclusions data actually checked for the record: 0. No exclusions coverage in the snapshot: −12. “Not checked” and “checked with no match” are different evidence states.
- 3. Identifiers present
- UEI and CAGE both present: 0. Either missing: −12. Presence does not prove the record matches the vendor on your documents.
- 4. NAICS presence
- At least one NAICS entry: 0. No NAICS entries: −12, even if PSC entries are present. This flag checks the presence of NAICS, not whether the codes fit your work or whether capability has been established.
The source date carries no separate deduction. A high score can still come from an old extract. The countdown can also cross a scoring threshold as time passes without a new source file. Always read the source date and expiration separately; do not rank suppliers or set an approval cutoff from this score.
Turn a flag into the next check
1. A dated fact needs confirmation
For an approaching or passed expiration, compare the correct entity’s current registration in official SAM.gov. Record what you verified and when. A countdown or a newer-looking score is not proof of renewal.
2. Evidence coverage is missing
For unavailable exclusions coverage, perform and document the official exclusions search separately. Keep “not checked in this snapshot” visible until that check is complete. An empty exclusions list by itself is not clearance.
3. The number looks reassuring
Still match identity, check source freshness and review the evidence your work needs. The score does not assess financial health, delivery history, price, cybersecurity, certifications or suitability for your specific requirement.

Sources and limits
- The dated CageCheck entity record supplies the example. The arithmetic explains CageCheck’s existing formula; GSA does not supply or endorse this score. No finding about this company’s performance is made.
- GSA: Entity/Exclusions Extracts documents separate entity and exclusions files. The public monthly entity file includes active and recently expired records; it is not a live exclusions check.
- SAM.gov Entity Information is the official route for current registration and exclusions information. Official source pages reviewed October 31, 2026.
This guide explains a display. It does not change a record, perform a new check, or establish current eligibility. A score of 100 would still not settle those questions.
