SAM registrations by state: compare the record, not the market
See how the October 5, 2026 public extract distributes distinct UEIs across all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Put a supplier list in context, then check each supplier separately. A larger count does not establish more available or qualified suppliers.

- USA country-code UEIs
- 861,258
- Denominator for the regional shares below.
- Other valid country codes
- 36,929
- Outside the regional table; retained globally.
- Unclassified country

- Kept separate, never assigned a state.
861,258 + 36,929 + 17 = 898,204 distinct UEIs globally. The 50 states and DC account for 847,222 USA-coded UEIs; another 14,036 have other USA region codes. Source fields are not independently verified boundaries.

Open an alphabetical group. A means active at extract time; E means expired at extract time. Total = A + E + any unclassified extract code. One source field contains A~E; it is kept unclassified, without choosing one status. Neither code establishes status today. This October 5, 2026 table includes active and expired registrations, first row per distinct UEI; it is not all businesses or current eligibility.

Other USA region codes: 14,036 UEIs (12,491 A; 1,545 E). Retained in the 861,258 denominator, outside the 50-state/DC rows. We do not assign them to a state or publish arbitrary address-field text.
Use a regional count to ask a better question
1. Match the recorded location
Use the physical address for the exact UEI you are reviewing. A parent company or a familiar name can point to another location; this table does not locate an entire corporate group.
2. Keep the comparison honest
A state with more recorded UEIs need not have more vendors for your requirement. The extract spans purposes and industries, and includes expired registrations. It contains no award or spending measure here.
3. Verify the individual record
Check the matched entity in official SAM.gov and review exclusions separately. Record source and review dates. An aggregate cannot clear a supplier or replace current evidence.
Hypothetical example: three Massachusetts locations in a review list cannot be divided by the Massachusetts count to estimate market coverage. Your list is a selected working list; the table is a dated count of identifiers across many activities. Compare identity and scope first.

Source, method and limits
- GSA Entity Extracts documentation: the monthly public extract includes active records and records expired in the preceding six months. Source: preserved October 5, 2026 PUBLIC MONTHLY V2 extract, not a live registry response.
- Keep the first physical row per UEI: 905,712 rows become 898,204 distinct identifiers. Read the country, physical-address province/state and A/E extract code from that row. Fifteen reviewed incomplete identities remain in the global count, outside the USA-coded group; missing information is not silently repaired.
- Keep source country code USA. Trim and uppercase region codes, then match only the U.S. Census state-code reference for 50 states and DC. Reference labels are not geocoding or a boundary certification. Other USA region codes stay separate.
- The 17 unclassified country fields are 16 blanks and one malformed code; none is assigned to USA. The regional denominator differs from the global count and the 898,189 archived complete-identity lookup load. See the full extract methodology.
- Unit: distinct UEI, first-row basis. Geography: USA source code, 50 state labels, DC and a residual group. Period: October 5, 2026. GSA documentation and Census reference consulted November 1, 2026. No country-name mapping, ownership inference, growth comparison or current eligibility finding.
